Boy Scout Notes
14 September 1914, the Paisley & Renfrewshire Gazette reported:
BOY SCOUT NOTES
My German Tailor
The Chief Scout writes, 'I have had an anonymous letter from a gentleman who accuses me of what he calls a disgraceful act, and that is that I am having my military outfit made by a German tailor. As a matter of fact, I am not having such clothes made at all and if I were, they would be made by my usual tailors, whose names are Jones and Chalk and Dawson.
'None of these sound very German and I should not mind very much if they were because I have no quarrel with a man because he happened to be born in Germany. I only object to the Emperor and the Government of that country who have made a military machine there with which to bully the whole of Europe. They started this war and brought ruin and misery on to thousands of innocent people.'
