New WW1 resources in West Lothian Local History Library

New WW1 resources in West Lothian Local History Library

Magazine cover

West Lothian has given a home to a complete set of the 13-volume work, The Great War, by H.W. Wilson (Amalgamated Press, 1914-19);  and an almost complete set of War Illustrated, a popular illustrated magazine of the Great War.  Both provide contemporary and detailed accounts of the progress of the war, and are a marvellous source of stories and images (out of copyright!) of the War.  They have been lent to the library for the duration of the war commemorations through the kindness of Mr Alan Dowell of Linlithgow.

The Local History Library itself has a new home at 89-91 High Street, Linlithgow - in the old British Linen Bank building, next door to County Buildings.  The telephone number is 01506 282491, and the email is localhistory@westlothian.gov.uk.

Opening hours are:

Mondays - closed

Tues- Fri 10am - 5pm

First Saturday morning 9am-1pm.

The library has many resources for studying the First World War, or family history of the First World War period.  No appointment is needed - you're very welcome just to browse.
