Hogmanay Supper

Hogmanay Supper

A Hogmanay supper was organised for all of the Scottish troops stationed at Bedford in December 1914.

The troops billeted in unfurnished houses were fed and entertained on New Year’s Eve and the remainder of the troops received the same treatment on New Year’s Day.

A total of eighteen public halls, huts and tents were used and the feast cost around £1,000. Some of the funding was received from Scotland, which was supplemented by local people’s generosity.
